This course has been designed to help you understand NetCDF files, get data out of them and create your own NetCDF files. You will learn how to plot data from NetCDF files, convert data to CSV, loop through a THREDDS catalogue and access data over the internet using OPeNDAP.

The address of this site has changed. The site is now responding to both https://saon.met.no/ and https://data.arcticobserving.org/. The latter is the preferred address to use.

On Monday 20th of March the SolR back-end for the metadata catalogue of the data portal will be changed.

Some major modifications will be present, including changes of metadata identifiers for some of the records.

A namespace prefix no.met.adc for all records managed by the Arctic Data Centre (adc.met.no) is now added.

Some records might be missing at the beginning, but we are working on filling these gaps.

The EU project Arctic PASSION is supporting the development of the SAON Data Portal. Quoting the Arctic PASSION website:

We are currently experiencing some troubles with exposing products after the maintenance work. We are working on it to restore full functionalities as soon as possible.

UPDATE:

The problems are fixed and the system works as normal.

The search interface and backend web services were upgraded this summer. Still some modifications are pending update. These will be done during the autumn.

The current catalog contain some metadata records that are not from the Arctic. These records will be removed in the future as metadata harvesting is being re-implemented.

The last months a number of updates to the search interface and the backends serving these have been added. This weekend the catalogue was updated to take benefit of some of these efforts. Harvesting of information from relevant repositories is yet not fully implemented in the newe solution, but e.g. harvesting of information from WMO GTS (real time exchange of meteorological information) is now partly implemented.

This site is under development. Within the next month or so, it will be filled with content harvested from data centres. In order to integrate a data centre, an OAI-PMH end point serving GCMD DIF oer ISO19115 is required. Further information on interoperability requirements will be posted.
