Abstract:
The dataset on mesozooplankton biomass from the Barents Sea during 1990-2022 made available here was collected by Research Group Plankton at the Institute of Marine Research (IMR), Norway. The dataset includes biomass from two main transects, Fugløya-Bjørnøya (FB) and Vardø Nord (VN) covered several times per year, as well as large-scale ecosystem surveys mainly restricted to autumn, from August to early October. This long-term spatiotemporal data series is important for exploring impacts of a rapidly changing climate on zooplankton variability in the Barents Sea. The data are also important for assessing seasonal and interannual dynamics of the mesozooplankton, and for exploration of key processes such as bottom-up (climate via phytoplankton) and top-down (predation) regulation of the mesozooplankton in the ecosystem. A more detailed description of methods is available in Appendix-1.
