Abstract:
Observation of a total of 22 points every 20~30 km (AMSR-E resolution).Oberved items are snow depth, density and quality, particle size and temperature distribution.Snow cover observations and full-year measurements of air, snow and soil temperatures, water contents and snow cover along 500 km of the northern Alaska's north-south Dalton Highway. The arctic forest zone, Brooks Range, and North Slope (tundra) are distributed in the Northern Alaska, which all contrast in terms of landform, vegetation, and climate. The snow/ice temperature observation data are being collected in various land-surfaces, landforms and heights representative of the Arctic Circle. The object of the observations is to monitor the changes in the artic temperature and snow/ice conditions, validate satellite observations, and gather fundamental data on the ecosystems of artic forests and tundra areas.
