Citation information for individual datasets is often provided in the metadata. However, not all datasets have this information embedded in the discovery metadata. On a general basis a citation of a dataset include the same components as any other citation:
author,
title,
year of publication,
publisher (for data this is often the archive where it is housed),
edition or version,
access information (a URL or persistent identifier, e.g. DOI if provided)
The information required to properly cite a dataset is normally provided in the discovery metadata the datasets.

Brief user guide
The Data Access Portal has information in 3 columns. An outline of the content in these columns is provided above. When first entering the search interface, all potential datasets are listed. Datasets are indicated in the map and results tabulation elements which are located in the middle column. The order of results can be modified using the "Sort by" option in the left column. On top of this column is normally relevant guidance information to user presented as collapsible elements.
If the user want to refine the search, this can be done by constraining the bounding box search. This is done in the map - the listing of datasets is automatically updated. Date constraints can be added in the left column. For these to take effect, the user has to push the button marked search. In the left column it is also possible to specific text elements to search for in the datasets. Again pushing the button marked "Search" is necessary for these to take action. Complex search patterns can be constructed using logical operators through the drop down menu above the text field. Text strings that are not quoted are treated as separate words and will match any of the words (i.e. assuming the OR operator). Phrases may be prefixed with '-' to indicate no occurence of the phrase in the results.
Other elements indicated in the left and right columns are facet searches, i.e. these are keywords that are found in the datasets and all datasets that contain these specific keywords in the appropriate metadata elements are listed together. Further refinement can be done using full text, date or bounding box constraints. Individuals, organisations and data centres involved in generating or curating the datasets are listed in the facets in the right column.

Abstract:
Gridded ice displacement fields obtained from satellite image processing. It is a low resolution product (62.5km resolution). The time span of the ice displacement is approximately 48 hours. This dataset is intended both for process studies and data assimilation. Daily products are freely available from the OSI SAF distribution chain.

The dataset contains 2 archives. The first archive contains all data (saved as netCDF files) relative to the Figures presented in Boutin et al. (2023). The second archive contains monthly averaged fields (saved as netCDF files) of the simulation described in Boutin et al. (2023). They include quantities relative to sea ice properties (icemod files) and to the mass balance (ice growth/melt etc... simba files). They cover the north Atlantic and the Arctic Ocean (north of Bering Strait) for the period 2000-2018.
icemod_monthly.tar.gz contains the gridded monthly averaged quantities used in the manuscript "Modelling the evolution of Arctic multiyear sea ice over 2000-2018" for each year between 2000 and 2018.Multiyear ice variables are conc_myi (concentration of multiyear ice in a grid cell) and thick_myi (cell average thickness of multiyear ice in a grid cell, in metres), along with source and sink terms (units per day) for multiyear concentration (dci_mlt_myi, dci_ridge_myi and dci_rplnt_myi, for melt, ridging and replenishment) and volume (dvi_mlt_myi and dvi_rplnt_myi, for melt and replenishment).transports_monthly_sections.zip contains the transports of multiyear ice through the sections defining each region in Figure 8 of the paper. Abstract:
A 350 km long HEM profile of ice thickness has been obtained between the North Pole and 87N, 60W, in April 2007 as part of the Damocles Tara activities
This product contains ice edge coordinates for the Nordic Seas from 1750 through 2002 for months March through August.
Ice edge in this product is defined as the outer boundary of ice having at least 30% ice concentration. Data are derived from publicly available sea ice products and use observational data from ship logbooks, diaries and other sources in addition to more recent satellite data products from the Scanning Multichannel Microwave Radiometer (SMMR) and the Special Sensor Microwave Imager (SSM/I).
The data are distributed via FTP in ASCII, JPEG, and shapefile format.

This is a collection of observations from several moored buoys in the Norwegian archipelago and fjords. The buoys measure wind and waves as well as currents, temperature and salinity at several depths in Halsafjord, Sulafjord and Vartdalsfjord and at an offshore location (winter 2019/2020). Both high-frequency recordings of 0,5 - 2 Hz and 10 - 20 minute mean values are provided. The data collection is co-located with the data collection Meteorological Observations in tall masts for the Coastal Highway E39 project in Mid-Norway ( https://adc.met.no/datasets/10.21343/z9n1-qw63 ). The first buoys were deployed October 2016 and the campaign will continue until at least 2024. The dataset is publicly available.

The data set contains information on weather, sea state, sea ice and icebergs recovered from the logbooks and meteorological journals of three Norwegian vessels during their five voyages to the Southern Ocean and Antarctica. The following information was recovered from the keyed and translated logbooks. Factory ship (FS) Antarctic: sea ice notes, icebergs, meteorological information, state of sea surface. FS Svend Foyn: sea ice notes, icebergs. Research vessel (RV) Norvegia: sea ice notes, icebergs; meteorological information. The observations cover the spring to early fall periods of 1929-1933. Details on data sources, methods used and basic analysis conducted on the data are found in the attached project report file.

This publication presents a dataset based on keying/tabulation/quality control of weather, sea ice and whale catch data from several catch logbooks of the Norwegian whaling company Thor Dahl A/S for the period of 1932-1963. These catch logbooks were logged during the whaling season while vessel was on the hunting grounds in the Southern Ocean. The logbooks used in this dataset were originally archived in Hvalfangstmuseet (Whaling Museum) in Sandefjord, Norway, which keeps much of the archive material connected to the Norwegian historical whaling industry. Later the documents were moved to the Vestfold archive in Sandefjord. During this study 56 catch logbooks were keyed and analysed. These catch logbooks cover the whaling seasons of 1932/33 to 1962/63, during which a total catch of 12 747 Blue whales was recorded. All relevant information about the catch (species and number) with associated ship positions, dates, weather and sea ice/icebergs conditions were keyed/tabulated into Excel spreadsheet. The data has been collected during the Nansen Legacy Joint Cruise 3 from 19 February – 11 March 2022 on research vessel Kronprins Haakon (cruise number 2022702), along a transect in the northern Barents Sea from 76N to 82N. The dataset contains abundance of ice algae marine protists, including ice algae (autotrophic) and protozoa (heterotrophic). Protists were identified and counted with light microscopy using the Utermöhl method and the result are given as cells per liter (cells/L) called organismQuantity.
Sampling method:
The samples were collected with Kovacs ice corer 9 cm diameter (Kovacs Enterprise). The samples were collected from the bottom part of the ice core at the following dept layers: 0-3 cm, 3-10 cm, 10-20 cm & 20-30 cm. The ice cores were transferred to a clean bucket and 100mL filtered sea water were added per 1 cm of sea ice and melted at 4°C. When the ice core was melted, 95 mL of the sample was transferred into 100 ml brown glass bottle. The samples were preserved using an aldehyde mixture of glutaraldehyde and hexamethylenetetramine-buffered formalin at final concentrations of 0.1% and 1% respectively.
Analyse method:
All samples have been analysed at Institute of Oceanology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IOPAN). The organisms were identified and counted under an inverted microscope according to the Utermöhl method.

The Nansen Legacy is funded by the Research Council of Norway and the Norwegian Ministry of Education and Research. They provide 50% of the budget while the participating institutions contribute 50% in-kind. The total budget for the Nansen Legacy project is 740 mill. NOK.
The data set presents keyed and translated from Norwegian daily observations of sea ice and icebergs conducted onboard research vessel “Norvegia” (D/S Norvegia) during its navigation around Antarctica in the austral summer of 1930-1931. The data covers the period of 20.10.1930 to 09.02.1931.

The data set contains information on weather, sea state, sea ice and icebergs recovered from the logbooks, catch books, notebooks and meteorological journals from a number of vessels during their voyages to the Southern Ocean and Antarctica. This work builds on the earlier phase of the project “Historical sea ice data from the Southern Ocean” aimed at recovering climate and sea ice data from Norwegian whaling vessels (Divine et al., 2021). The extended database comprises a collection of 27 documents of various types covering the period of 1932-1940 was keyed and translated. The documents are associated with vessels that was operated by Norwegian whaling companies or British companies with Norwegian crews. Details on data sources, methods used and basic analysis conducted on the data are found in the attached project report file. Note that this is an updated version (V2) of the dataset from November 2023. For more details on the data structure and individual files please see the attached document “Divine_et_al_AntarcticLogs_v2_updateNov2023.pdf”. This data set contains profiles of dissolved CH4 concentrations in under-ice seawater (0-75 m water depth) and in new sea ice formed in leads, sampled during N-ICE2015 Floe 1 in February 2015. Data are the basis for the manuscript “Methane release from open leads and new ice following an Arctic winter storm event” by Silyakova and co-authors. The two refrozen leads were sampled on 07/02 (6 cores), 09/02 (6 cores), 10/02 (6 cores) and 12/02 (3 cores). Under-ice seawater was sampled on 02/02, 03/02, 09/02 and 10/02.
