Abstract:
The data has been collected during the monitoring cruise (NPI, Transekttokt) in Kong Håkon VII Hav from 2021 until today. The sampling covers a transect from the ice shelf across the shelf break into the deep ocean at approximately 6° East but also includes other opportunistic stations in the area. The samples were collected using a Niskin bottles and a phytoplankton net from the side of the ship. The dataset contains abundance of pelagic marine protists, including phytoplankton (autotrophic) and protozooplankton (heterotrophic). Protists were identified and counted with light microscopy and the results are given as cells per liter (cells/L) called organismQuantity.
TT21: Transekttokt 2021 from December 31, 2020 to January 14, 2021 on cargo vessel MV Malik Arctica
Sampling method:
The samples were collected 12-Niksin-bottle SBE32 carousel water sampler equipped with CTD (conductivity-temperature-depth; SBE91+ system) at the following depths: 100, 75, 50, 25, 10 m and deep chlorophyll max (DCM). In addition, one samples was taken at each station using a HydroBios Apstein phytoplankton net 20 µm from 20-0 m depth. The samples were preserved using an aldehyde mixture of glutaraldehyde and hexamethylenetetramine-buffered formalin at final concentrations of 0.1% and 1% respectively. For phytoplankton net samples, the samples were fixed with 3 ml strontium chloride stock solution and then 10 ml of 20% hexamine-buffered formaldehyde (final concentration of 2%).
Analyse method:
All samples have been analysed at Institute of Oceanology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IOPAN). The organisms were identified and counted under an inverted microscope according to the Utermöhl method.
