Abstract:
A digital geological map of Dronning Maud Land is compiled based on a total of 92 paper map sheets. All primary source maps are scanned, georeferenced and digitized in their original form and subsequently compiled into a seamless, digital framework with a uniform and descriptive legend. The rock units are organized chronologically by regions and lithostratigraphic or lithodemic units in the new legend. The legend includes 128 geological rock units; the oldest is of Archean age, whereas the youngest lithologies are Jurassic. Unconsolidated superficial deposits, such as till, block fields, colluvium etc., are not differentiated. The database displays geochronology data in a separate layer, which contain a total of 389 published ages. Structural data, including folds, faults and major tectonic boundaries, are given for areas where the source map contained structure data. An overview geology layer at the scale of 1:5 000 000 show the different crustal blocks and tectonic terranes of Dronning Maud Land.
